spring opening to be held on Saturday, May 3rd at 10:00 am.  Volunteers

are also needed for weekly cleaning (washing windows & sweeping the

floor) at the cabin.  Sign up sheets were passed around.

B.     Hessler Log Cabin “Duties and Responsibilities”:  An updated copy of the “Duties and Responsibilities for the Hessler Log Cabin” was passed out to the members for their review.  This included a change to section V, part A  (Section V, part A was changed to include 75% for repairs and maintenance and other expenses of the Log Cabin and 25% to OMPHS General Fund).  A motion to approve this change and accept the entire document was made by Nancy Warne and passed by a majority vote of the membership.  The Historical Society will be responsible for the initial opening and closing of the log cabin at the beginning and end of the season.  We will also open and close on Log Cabin Day.  The new Grounds Maintenance employee will open/close on a daily basis at all other times until someone moves into the Lighthouse.  We still need a volunteer to replace Patti Rudolph as Log Cabin Chairman.

 VI.      Committee Reports:

A.    Dougherty Home Site – Bob Dean/Marty Klein:  Bob reports that two trees on the property need to be removed.  The dead tree in the front and the maple tree that is too close to the carriage house.  We plan to save some of the wood so that wood carvers can turn it into craft items. We have a tentative approval to proceed with the reconstruction of the icehouse.  Our tentative goals for this summer are to reconstruct the icehouse, stabilize the main house and carriage house and removal of the trees.  Master stone mason Tim Wicksall has agreed to supervise the restoration of the foundation.  We will need volunteers to work along with him.

The Peter Dougherty Society will host a nationally known expert on Historical Structures in conjunction with the beginning of a historical structures investigation.  Ilene Tyler, FAIA, of Quinn Evans Architects in Ann Arbor will discuss the importance and role of a historic structure report in restoring the Dougherty-Rushmore house in Old Mission.  The program will be presented at 7:00 p.m., Friday, April 11th, at the Township Hall.  The public is welcome to attend and refreshments will be served.

B.     Log Cabin Days- Laura Johnson:  Log Cabin Day will be Sunday,

June 29th from 11:00 to 5:00.  We will have crafters, music, and the Harmonica Class will be back.  We will also have food again this year.

Sign up sheets for working in the Log Cabin and the Lighthouse are on the back table.  You may contact Heatherlyn at 223-9256 or email to foxhill@pentel.net.

C.     Membership – Ann Marie Grenadier:  Ann Marie reports that the membership form has been changed to make it clear when the membership term starts and ends.  We will also include a return envelope when we send out the renewals.  We want to make it as easy as possible for people to become members.  The new forms are on the website.

VII.      New Business:

A.    Paul Burns:  “My term as President is coming to an end and I do not want to start any new projects at this time.  The one thing that I do feel that we should discuss or consider is to make the term of President longer.  I don’t thank that one year is long enough to really complete any projects or make any changes to the Society.  I think the term for President should be at least 2 years.   I would also welcome your thoughts or comments about how I did as your President this past year.  You can call me at home or send me an email (pburns@chartermi.net).  Also, if there are any changes you would like to see within the Society please let me know.  I do want to say that I have been very proud and pleased to have served all of you, I’ve made a lot of friends and I will never forget my time in office.”

VIII.      Adjournment:  The meeting was adjourned at 8:45 p.m.
