2. Seconded – Cal Jamieson
IV. Committee Reports:
A. Hessler Log Cabin – Paul Burns reports that we will close the cabin on Saturday, October 11th at 9:00 am. Eight or nine people signed up to help and it shouldn’t take long. We will use old sheets to cover the contents. With our new shutters that Carl Johnson made we no longer have to put
everything in the attic. Coffee and donuts will be provided. A portion of
the $350 grant received from the Women’s Club was used for the roof
cleaning. After the cleaning our roof looks great! It may take another
light application next spring but we do not need a new roof!! Paul and
Susan Feiger have finished the inventory of the contents and a copy has
been sent to the Township. With the help of Mary Swift, Paul is working
on the landscaping plan. This should be self-maintaining with natural
plantings. They will present the plan at the March meeting. This may
include underground irrigation and a Serviceberry tree in the area to the
left of the cabin.
B. Archives – Ann Swaney reports that she has made up a very nice scrapbook of all the paperwork regarding the tree-planting project (thanks to Jim Hall & Rebecca) to be kept in the Archives. She also made copies of all the minutes from past meetings.
C. Tree Committee – Cal Jamieson: Cal reports that Mr. Kroupa has ordered trees, which should be here around November 1st. We hope to get them in the ground the first or second Saturday of November. We will be planting on Saturday because the Boy Scouts have offered to help. We could use one more trailer to haul mulch. If anyone has a trailer please give Cal a call (231-223-4394). We will also need more volunteers.
D. Lighthouse – Fred Stoye: Fred reports that they are working on the possible installation of irrigation and alarm systems. They are also still working on the gift shop idea. Also, the archeological study for the parking lot has been done.
E. Dougherty Home Site – Bob Dean reports that the Icehouse is almost done except for painting. The work on the main house should start in the next couple of weeks.
F. Nominating Committee – Donna reports that Barb Berthelsen and Laura Johnson have agreed to be our Nominating Committee.
V. Old Business:
A. Ann Swaney reports that on September 23rd the Heritage Road people did
tour the Peninsula, Lighthouse, and the Log Cabin. Thanks to Laura
Johnson who stayed late to let them in. Laura reported that they really
enjoyed both the Lighthouse and the Cabin.
VI. New Business:
A. Jackie Burns reports that she has been working on discovering the history of the Avery/Parmalee home. She was able to find the foundation and Nancy Warren photographed the site. The foundation is located in the Old Mission Point Park. If you park in the lot on Ridgewood Rd. and start down the path into the park, the foundation is to the right at the edge of the bluff. George Parmalee was an important historical figure to fruit growing on the Peninsula. Jackie asks if anyone would like to help her in compiling the history of these families to please call her ( 231-995-9207).
B. Upcoming programs –

December – Christmas Dinner at American Legion Hall.
May – Jenni Glysson speaks on family history on Old Mission Peninsula
